The Sunrise in the City Cocktail Party will take place at Three Sixty in Tribeca on May 16th. The evening is set to attract hundreds of New York business leaders, philanthropists and others to lend their support for Sunrise and to have an amazing night out in the City.

As recently reported by Reuters, hedge fund manager Luke Halestrap has joined BlueCrest Capital, one of the biggest hedge fund firms in Europe. This marks a return to the industry for someone who has been focused on the bank executive world, as he has been working as head of EMEA rates at Bank of America Merrill Lynch until leaving last year.

As would interest other hedge fund managers like Corey Ribotsky, Halestrap joined BlueCrest in January as a portfolio manager on the BlueCrest Capital International fund.

BlueCrest was first set up by Mike Platt and William Reeves in 2000 and now has $29.4 billion in assets. Halestrap’s move signals a trend that others are also seeing in the industry, with the move away from the banking industry and the move towards the growing hedge fund industry.

In hedge fund news that helps hedge fund leaders like Corey Ribotsky to stay on top of current trends, Future Capital Partners has just launched its third renewable energy enterprise investment program. Called the Elara III fund targets an annual rate of return of 29.28%, pre-tax. It plans to follow a conservative investment strategy that will focus on lower risk opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

They expect the fund to close at the end of March and FCP plans to raise at least £6 million.

In a statement, Piers Denne, head of sales & marketing at Future Capital Partners, said “The success we have had with our previous Elara funds, and the appetite among investors for the diversified renewable energy strategy they adopt, is validation of our approach to the green investment sector. Launching Elara III will give investors another chance to benefit from the funds innovative strategy, and we have responded to investor appetite by increasing the capacity we can invest in underlying deals.”

For experts like Corey Ribotsky who make direct investments in public companies, it’s always interesting to follow the latest developments. The dream for these investors at the moment is for huge social media companies like Facebook to go public. And that’s exactly what is set to happen given last month’s announcement that it has officially filed with the SEC to become public, known as FB. It’s probably one of the –if not the – hottest IPOs of this year, although we still have 10 months left in 2012. It’s tough to imagine a better competitor though than Facebook, given the direction in which social media is happening.

Few locations are more breathtaking – and few events more enjoyable. Next month, the Onyx and Breezy Foundation will host the Third Annual Island Gala at the Sanctuary Golf Club on Sanibel Island in Florida. The first two gala events were huge successes, raising thousands of dollars for animals in need. Many associates including Corey Ribotsky have been at the past galas, and the gala next month should be another opportunity to enjoy together.

The evening will include a cocktail hour, a three course dinner, entertainment, dancing and live and silent auctions. 100% of the money that is raised from the evening will help domestic animals in the Sanibel-Captiva and Lee County locations.

Sometimes, all it takes is one person and an idea. In early 1988, Bruce Cleland of Towson, Maryland gathered friends together to train for the New York City marathon – and to do so while raising funds for blood cancer research. His daughter, who was five at the time, was battling leukemia. Cleland and his friends ended up donating $320,000 that year to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, where so many donors, like Corey Ribotsky, help to make a difference.

And with ihs efforts, the Team In Training program was born. LLS asked Cleland to replicate the idea that he had in 1988 in other locations, and he slowly created the Team In Training model.

Now, Georgia Cleland, that little girl who was given a 55% chance of survival, just finished her first half-marathon with Team In Training. And, thanks to her father’s idea, the Team In Training program has reached over half a million people who have trained in the last 23 years and has raised more than $1.2 billion in research.

Natixis Global Asset Management, in a recent poll of 800 people in the UK, found that 80% of people believe that taking on extra risk is not a good idea now.

Many believe, instead, placed stability as their number one priority. Many financial leaders, however, worry that people will squander away potential opportunities.

As John Hailer, president and CEO of Natixis Global Asset Management in the U.S. and Asia explained, “The pendulum may have swung too far in terms of risk aversion, causing individual investors to shun investment options that are designed to grow portfolios while minimising risk in volatile environments.”
