In recent North Shore-LIJ Health System news, the Steven A. and Alexandra M. Cohen Foundation has pledged $50 million for pediatric care for the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY and North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY.
With this news, the North Shore-LIJ pediatric hospital, which was formerly known as Schneider Children’s Hospital, will now be renamed the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York.
The Cohen Foundation contribution will enable the North Shore-LIJ, where Corey Ribotsky is a Board of Trustee member, to start on its plans to construct a 100,000 square foot pavilion in the front of the children’s hospital in New Hyde Park. This project has been on hold since December 2008 as a result of the economic downturn. This pavilion will feature a Pediatric Emergency Center, a 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, a 25 bed Medical Surgical Unit, and a state-of-the-art surgery center with six operating rooms dedicated to children.
